6 Steps to Protect Your Claim

Do these before you sign anything from your insurance company.

  1. Photograph all damage before repairsEvery room, every side of the house, the roof, and the yard.
  2. Prevent more damageTarp the roof, board windows, dry out water. Keep every receipt.
  3. Keep damaged itemsDo not throw anything away until it is photographed and listed.
  4. Report the claim to your insurerWrite down the claim number, the date, and who you spoke to.
  5. Log every call, email, and letterDates, names, and what was said. Save every document they send.
